Mia Lewis

A child raised in the 1970s and 1980s in Detroit, Mich., a city in continuous motion, Mia grew up in a small immediate family and a large, close-knit, extended family. These circumstances gave her a view of life where adventure and God are centerstage.

It was during Mia’s senior year of college at Alabama State University that she discovered her career destiny. While working on a family project with her uncle, a former chief auditor for a Fortune 100 company, he recognized Mia’s knack for auditing, changing the course of her career from mortgage banking to corporate auditing. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management and is a Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist. As an auditor, Mia has traveled the country meeting new people; but volunteering piques her passions. With a thrill for helping others, she has put in hours with Meals on Wheels; assisted the Oakland County (Michigan) Sheriff’s Department with its annual volunteer activities for the disabled; provided tutoring in English in Charlotte, and walked the 60-mile Breast Cancer Walk three times, raising more than $10,000. The idea of stepping out of her comfort zone to conquer fears is the epitome of adventure in Mia’s eyes. She embraces her spirit of adventure as a self-esteem booster, pushing her to conquer experiences she never imagined. In the name of “adventure therapy,” Mia has skied in Colorado, snowmobiled across the United States Continental Divide, white water-rafted in West Virginia’s New and Gauley rivers, zip-lined through Alaska’s Tongass Rainforest, skydived at 14,000 feet and hiked the tallest free-standing mountain in the world, Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, Africa. The more feats Mia masters, the more empowered she is to meet personal and professional challenges head on. When she’s not looking for her next adventure, Mia reads, serves at her church, volunteers and spends quality time with family and friends.
